There are so many different terminology’s used in poker. So of which may be confusing to new players. Therefore we have decided to list a couple of the most important poker terms which are most commonly used online and in casinos. The list contains a lot of the terminology used in the game of Texas Hold’em, this is one of the most popular games online.
All In
This is when the player commits all of their chips into the pot
Ante
This is generally the first poker rule which is made by all the players to the game, usually before the game starts so the pot has some money already and also get the players to play.
Bet
This is what the player places into the pot
Blind
Similar to an ‘Ante’ but instead of all players required to make a bet, only two are. In the game of Texas Holdem Poker there is a term known as big blind this is a specified amount which needs to be put into the pot by a player the second amount is known as a small blind this is generally ½ the large amount put in.
Bluff
This is when a player bets or raises with a bad hand so that the other players may decide to fold even though they may have a better hand then you.
Buyin
Normally associated with poker tournaments, a specified amount is needed as a fee to enter the tournament.
Call
This is when a player decides to match the previous players bet, so the game can continue.
Check
Can only be done if no player has made any bets in the round, players can pass on an option to bet if this is the case.
Flop
This is a term used in Texas Hold’em for the first 3 community cards which are taken out.
Fold
Player decides to quit the current game
Kicker
If two players have the same poker sitehand, a kicker card is drawn which allow for a winner to be declared.
Raise
This is when a player make a larger bet then then previous bet so that the stakes of the game is raised.
River
This is a term used in Texas Hold’em, this is for the last community card which is given to the players.
Turn
This is a term used in Texas Hold’em, this is for the 4th community card which is given to the players.
